Féodor Competes In The World Cup

The World Cup kicked off, and in typical Féodor fashion, Féodor sought a way to involve himself in things.

"My office is doing a World Cup sweepstake." Hester said.

"Excellent." said Féodor. "Put £1 towards it for me."

The day of the first match arrived, and Féodor waited impatiently for Hester to get home from work.

"Well?" he asked. "Which team did we get? France, I hope?"

"England," said Hester.

"Disgusting." said Féodor.

England were playing Croatia. Féodor could hear Hester's neighbours yelling "come on Croatia!!"

Féodor asked, "how much money do we stand to win in the sweepstake if England win?"

"Around £40", Hester said.

"And," asked Féodor, "approximately how many croissants would that buy?"

"I'm not sure." said Hester. "But it's a fair few. Why?"

Féodor looked at the TV. "Come on England!!"

Results:
England 4 - 2 Croatia

A number of weeks later...

Féodor received the devastating news that France was out of the World Cup.

"We still have England." he mused. "I stand to gain a croissant if England win."

The very next day:

"No! My chances of glory and numerous croissants have been shattered!"
